Meet The Band
Walter Downing
Walter Downing is a former West Suburban high school English teacher and Guitar Club sponsor. He has performed throughout the Midwest with respected R&B, blues, funk, and church bands. Walter, Andre Thompson, and Chris Fisher are the founding members of 3-Point Soul. All 3 are former band managers and musicians with well over 30 years of experience and have joined forces to create an electrifying, melodically astute band. The group enhanced their sound by adding accomplished, highly respected musicians.
Andre Thompson
Andre Thompson has been a dedicated musician for more than five decades. His classical music training began at the age of seven, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for music. His education spanned multiple genres, including classical, gospel, jazz, R&B, and blues, giving him a diverse and well-rounded musical background. As his career evolved, he expanded his talents into songwriting and music production while becoming a highly skilled keyboardist.
Throughout his career, Andre has faithfully served in church music ministry while also performing with blues, jazz, and R&B bands. His extensive experience includes serving as a praise and worship consultant, conducting music workshops, building and developing music ministries, teaching private drum lessons, directing music programs, performing as a professional drummer, and writing and producing original music. His commitment to excellence and passion for developing musicians have made him a respected leader, mentor, and performer.
Chris Fisher
Chris Fisher is one of the most recognized musical talents in the Chicago area. He is a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Chris is a classically trained pianist who began playing guitar before the age of 12. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition as a four-year Presidential Scholar at Columbia College. “Chris’s career has taken him from major Chicago stages, including the Taste of Chicago and the Chicago Blues and Jazz Festivals—to national and international collaborations. After graduating, he began performing regularly with legendary jazz pianist Ghalib Ghallab, first in the Chicagoland area and later as the lead guitarist for Ghalib’s Vegas Knight Trio in Las Vegas. The group held regular performances at Fuso Jazz Club and toured jazz clubs across the country until Ghalib’s passing in 2018” (Chris Fisher Music). He has performed with numerous local bands and has become one of the most sought-after entertainers in the area.
Chris Fisher Music is a brand with a loyal following.His one-man band is a must-see. Most of his performances are sold out weeks before his event. He is affectionately known as Chris “Prince” Fisher out of respect for his extraordinary talent and in tribute to the Grammy Award-winning artist.
Jeff Thompson
Jeff Thompson is a saxophonist, songwriter, and producer whose musical journey began in 1984 at the age of nine. Raised on a foundation of school concert bands, jazz ensembles, and church music, he went on to become the first-chair tenor saxophonist in his college’s top jazz band and earn multiple awards along the way. Since the early 1990s, Jeff has continued to play in church settings while also performing with several bands and creating original music of his own. In addition to saxophone, he is also a capable keyboard player, bringing a broad musical perspective shaped by decades of experience in jazz, gospel, and contemporary music.
Larry Chapman
Larry Chapman is an accomplished keyboardist known for his dynamic playing and passion for live music, shaped by influences in soul, R&B, funk, jazz, gospel, and contemporary styles. He brings rich textures, expressive solos, and a solid musical foundation to every performance, always focused on serving the song. Versatile across genres, Larry delivers performances that are both technically polished and emotionally engaging, whether supporting vocalists or driving the rhythm section. Away from the stage, he is a technology professional and entrepreneur who remains deeply committed to creating memorable musical experiences with every performance.
Devin Thompson
Devin Thompson is the younger brother of Andre Thompson. He is a Chicago-based vocalist, songwriter, and recording artist. He is a long-time member of the award-winning Chicago Catz band. Devin’s showmanship and versatility separate him from most vocalists. He is a true frontman who embodies the band’s personality and energy. Every performance is an experience. His on-stage dynamics are entertaining and engaging, while his stage presence is magnetic and absolute. He controls the energy of large rooms and engages each audience member. He has natural charisma. Devin is often seen mingling in the audience with his microphone, looking for willing participants. He also enjoys interacting with his bandmates during his performances. His albums, Tales of the Soul and Club Zero, are indicative of Devin’s mindset, creative growth, and technical focus. His outstanding talent is not isolated. He shares his musical DNA with his children, who have radio-ready singles set to hit the Billboard pop charts.
